CHRIST THE KING
November 23, 2014, is Christ the King Sunday, according to church calendars. It celebrates the all-embracing authority of Christ as King and Lord of the cosmos. It is celebrated the last Sunday before Advent brings in the Christmas season. Below you will find daily verses and devotions honoring Jesus as Christ the King ... your King and mine.

Sunday
Behold Your King
"Tell the daughter of Zion,
'Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey...'"
Matt. 21:5 NKJ
When Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday He rode on a little foal of a donkey. The crowds were cheering and waving palm branches. Many of them were wondering if this was the coming of God's chosen one. On that day, He fulfilled this prophecy of the coming Messiah:
Behold Your King
"Tell the daughter of Zion,

Lowly, and sitting on a donkey...'"

Monday
The Servant King is Lord
"Tell the daughter of Zion,
'Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey...'"
Matt. 21:5
Today's Reading: Philippians 2:5-11
The people of Jerusalem rejoiced as Jesus, their Messiah, rode down the hill from the mount of Olives. Little did they know that by Friday many of them would be shouting "Crucify Him, crucify Him!" But Jesus knew. This is why He wept over the city as He drew near. He knew they would crucify Him, and that Jerusalem would be destroyed because of their rejection. (See Luke 19:35-44) Paul speaks so eloquently of the lowliness of Jesus in Philippians:

Why Do the Nations Rage?
"Why do the nations rage, why are they so angry?
Why do they waste their time on futile plans?
The kings of the earth prepare for battle,
and the rulers plot together against the LORD and against His Anointed One,
Jesus came humbly in His first Coming as the meek servant King. He was crucified, raised from the dead and God has highly exalted Him over every name. Knowing this we wait with great anticipation for His second Coming in glory to reign in great power as LORD. When He comes we will finally have peace on earth and good will among people... because evil will be destroyed.

Wednesday
All Things Under His Feet
And He put all things under His feet,
and gave Him to be head over all things..."
Ephesians 1:19-22 NKJ
Jesus is above any power in the universe. The kings, presidents and dictators of our day may perceive themselves as mighty, ruling their countries, but God is laughing at them. They must look to Him as silly little ants battling over an ant hill. They set themselves up as kings, without a care of the One who is King over all. How dare they plot against the Lord and His Anointed one?

Peace Through His Blood
Jesus has authority over all power both on earth over kings and dictators; and in the heavenly places over powerful spirit entities; because He created them. Therefore, as Creator, He is able to complete all that is promised in His word. Furthermore when we are "IN HIM” we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins". Ephesians 1:7 Here is how Paul describes this in Colossians:
"He has delivered us from the power of darkness
and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood,
the forgiveness of sins.

In All Things He may Have Preeminence

"He is the image of the invisible God
and the first born over all creation.
For by Him all things were created
that are in heaven and that are on the earth...
All things were created through Him and for Him.
And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist...
who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
and in all things He may have the preeminence. "
Colossians 1:15-18 NKJ

King of Kings: Revelation 19:11-16
As Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the crowds were cheering and wondering if this was the coming of God's chosen one. In this time of great rejoicing, Messiah finally came in to the city of David, the city of the Great king. He was righteous, and just. In their eyes He was coming to make things right and end the injustice they lived under with the occupation of Rome. But that is not how it was to be. God's chosen One, came in humility. He rode on a little donkey, rather than a majestic horse. He came in peace, not in war. And now as we look ahead to the second coming of our Great King He will come very differently.
